Avon third graders celebrated Christmas with a “Trip to Germany” with Jake Namminga as the pilot. Some of the highlights of the trip included trying German foods like Stollen and Bavarian Pretzels. St. Nicholas left oranges and Kinder chocolate in our P.E. shoes. We went “shopping” in a German Christmas Market and had to exchange our dollars for Euros. Bode had real Euros that we got to see and touch. We learned about the Neuschwanstein Castle in the Alps, and used map skills to learn more about the population, towns, and landforms in Germany. We crafted Advent calendars and wrote letters to Christkindl. We also learned how to sing “O’Tannenbaum” and wish people a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in German. We decided to spread Christmas cheer by caroling around town. Courtesy Photos
