AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY’S GIRL’S STATE- NOW AND THEN…

The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) South Dakota held its first annual Girl’s State in 1947 in Mitchell on the Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU) campus. 117 girls attended the first year. DWU held the annual event until 1985 when Girl’s State was moved to the South Dakota State University (SDSU) campus. Girl’s State changed locations a final time in 2002 when it was moved to its current location on the University of South Dakota (USD) campus at Vermillion. Currently over 400 young women attend the ALA South Dakota Girl’s State’s annual event.

Rotary News

The Wagner Rotarians were treated to a social night on Wednesday, December 27th at their club residence on Main Street. The evening began with a Social Half-Hour followed by a delicious meal. The theme of the evening was all about the country of India. Michelle and Gerrit Juffer recently returned from a Rotary Exchange Trip to this country. Exchange trips vary from country to country around the globe. Rotarians from each District are eligible and must apply for the travel exchange. They are always escorted by the Rotarians of the district in the country they are visiting. They also stay at the Rotarians homes or in a hotel of Rotary’s choice.

WRESTLING RESULTS FROM FLOYD FARRAND INVITE

Our first competition back after Christmas break was the Floyd Farrand Invitational at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School December 30th. The guys competed well and finished 8th as a team, placing four individuals. Both Karstyn Lhotak and Jhett Breen brought home first place finishes while Riley Roberts and Tim Bouza both placed third. It was a good weekend of competition and the guys responded well to the challenge. Our next competition will be Saturday, January 6th in Miller for tournament action.

AN INTERVIEW WITH SANTA...

Santa was finally able to sit down for an interview following a little bit of rest and relaxation after his long work week before Christmas. This is Santa’s 48th year of doing personal home visits, riding in parades, visiting schools, preschools, local towns, senior care facilities, and being a part of so many other joyous holiday events in the area.
