SWEET CLOVER 4-H CLUB MEETS

The Sweet Clover 4-H club met February 4 at 6 p.m. President Maddy Huitema called the meeting to order. Flag Pledges were led by Lucy and Josie Schloss. Roll call topic was 'What’s your favorite animal?' and nine members were present. The secretary's report was given by Colt Wolf. Hailey Brandt motionedtoapprovethereport, seconded by Josie Schloss. The treasurer'sreportwasgivenby Carmindy Ferwerda. Landon Thury motioned to approve the report, seconded by Rilyn. Old business talked about was signing up for shooting sports. There are cooking classes being offered. We also received Thank you letters from Our Home and the VA Hospital. The new business was they are taking bids for people to mow the 4-H grounds in Tyndall. The meeting was motionedbyLandonandseconded by Rilyn. Demonstrations were done by Landon, Rilyn,CarmindyandHailey. Next meeting is March 3, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.

NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEKHONORING SADDI WYNIA

Saddi Wynia is the school counselor for the Avon School District. This was Saddi’s first job as a school counselor and she has been in this position for Avon for the last three years. Saddi received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from South Dakota State University. She then furthered her educationbyattendingtheUniversityofTennesee Martin to receive her Master’s of Education in School Counseling.

IT'S TIME TO PLAN THOSE SMALL ANIMAL 4-H PROJECTS!

Do you have a youth ages 5-18 who is interested in poultry or rabbits? Now is the time to get those projects started! The Bon Homme County Rabbit & Poultry Club is ready to help if you are new to small animal projects in 4-H. For poultry enthusiasts, Achievement Days classes range from purebred exhibition poultry, layer pens, or meat pens. Time is of the essence here so that your poultry is fully feathered and in its best condition by Achievement Days in August. Our club members help newcomers by getting you in contact with breeders, giving advice on setup and care, and coaching on preparing your birds and yourself. Youth interested in rabbits also should be starting to contact breeders and working on finding a rabbit to show. Rabbits must be purebred and tattooed.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

McKenna Marie Kocmich was born on March 10, 2006. Her familyincludesherdadDon,her mom,Dawn,andhersister,Maddie. McKennna’sfavoritesubject in school is chemistry because she likes doing experiments. Her most challenging task as a senior is trying to figure out her future. McKenna likes to be with her friends and family, read, golf, and go shopping in her spare time. Her favorite high school activities include volleyball, basketball, and golf. One memory McKenna will remember forever is cheering at the Football State Championship.

STATE ONE ACT

This year Avon School district went to State One Act at Brandon Valley High School. At the state one act competition, Avon won 1st place. We interviewed the drama director, 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Knodel. These where some of the comments she had about making it to state this year. “I felt amazing after learning we advanced at regions. Each year it seems as if ourcompetitionbecomesstronger. I was excited to be able to have a change to perform at the State One Act festival for the 4th year in a row!”

HIGH SCHOOL BOWLING PARTY

On Friday, January 26 the high school traveled to Yankton for its annual bowling party. The students had a fun-filled and eventful day. After everyone had played their two rounds of bowling, they went and ate dinner at Pizza Ranch. When they got back to the school, students spent time together playing board games and hanging out until the end of the day.
