BREEN SELECTED FOR ALL-STAR GAME

Jhett Breen was selected to play in the SD high school football all-star game. Kickoff will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8 at Dykhouse Stadium at South Dakota State University. The game is free to attend. Players were graduating seniors selected by the SDFBCA through nominations of high school coaches in the state. Jhett will play for the blue team. Coached by head coach Brian Allmendinger, of Milbank, with assistant coaches Mike Murray, of Gregory; Matt Christensen, of Brandon Valley; Tom Culver, of Bon Homme; and Justin Briese, of Aberdeen Central.

KOUPAL NAMED TO ELITE 8

Macy Koupal was named to the 2024 list of Elite Eight Female Athletes of the Year. This is the 21st year that KQRN and KORN radio stations have sponsored this award. Requirements to be named to this prestigious list include being a junior or senior, having a GPA of 3.0 or higher, being involved in community and school activities, be an elite athlete and be nominated by their coach or school administration.

STEGMEIERS CHOSEN AS 2024 FISH DAYS PARADE MARSHALLS

Merritt and Joanne Stegmeier have been chosen as the 2024 Fish Days Parade Marshall's. The Stegmeiers have been residents of Lake Andes since September 18, 1989. The couple originally moved to the area from Oregon after Merritt was transferred to the SD Army Corp of Engineers at Pickstown where he became the Lake Manager of Lake Francis Case. The couple knew that they had made the right choice planting their roots in Lake Andes as soon as they arrived with the moving van. Moving here without knowing a single person, it was suggested to the Stegmeiers to call the Lake Andes School when they were looking for some help unloading. After calling the school, students Mike Carda and Curt Breen were enlisted to help Merritt and Joanne.

ANDES CENTRAL SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES

This year’s Andes Central School Board election will be held June 4th. Anyone registered and wanting to vote should come to the Lake Andes Community Center at 207 Main Street and cast their votes between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The Andes Central School Board has (three) three-year positions available. Candidates running for the three positions include Debbra Houseman, Kristin Dvorak, Nicole Gray and Kelly Tschumper.

TWO QUALIFY FOR STATE GOLF

AC/DC Thunder Golf team traveled to Mitchell for Pre-Region Golf, where Abigail took home 1st place Friday, May 17th! Wednesday, May 22nd, the golf team went back to Mitchell for Region Golf, where Abigail placed 4th and Danica placed 12th. Both Abigail and Danica qualified for the State Tournament in Brookings which will be held June 2nd-4th. Great job AC/DC Thunder Golf and good luck at the state tournament!

O’GORMAN KNIGHT MAHLI ABDOUCH DOMINATES GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

Mahli Abdouch, a senior for the Sioux Falls O’Gorman Knights, dominated the South Dakota girls’ basketball scene this 2023-2024 season. Mahli is the daughter of 1998 Wagner Community School graduate, Matthew Abdouch and his wife, Tasha. She is also the granddaughter of Tom Abdouch and Irene Sully (Wagner); Patricia Abdouch and Dick Fuchs (Pickstown); and Debra and Kim Thomas.

“EARLY INTERVENTION”

It has been a few years since my children were babies! Having spent my youth as a babysitter and a career in pediatrics, I was pretty comfortable in watching the developmental of babies, toddlers and young children. ( Teenagers are another story for another day!!) That isn’t always the case for young parents who may not have experience with this age group.
