WAGNER ORAL INTERP BEGINS SEASON

The Wagner Oral Interp team took off to Winner on Friday, October 4, for the first meet of the year! This year, we return seniors Jackson Rolston, Presley Slaba and Macee Stimpson, and Freshmen Taya Stone and Samuel Kafka. We also welcome Portlyn Jones to the team this year! Our returning speakers performed Friday, with all earning the top two awards given that day.

DUCK BANDING AT THE LAKE ANDES NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

What is duck banding? Who does duck banding? Why is duck banding important? For most people these types of questions never even cross their mind unless they are a part of an ornithological organization, work for a wildlife organization or are a duck hunter. Duck banding is method that is used to help study different aspects of ducks as well as identify ducks through the use of a band attached to their leg, beak or foot. Duck banding is an important part aiding the Migratory Bird Division of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in information regarding duck’s dispersal, migration, behavior, social structure, life span, population, estimated survival and productivity, toxicology, disease research which in turn helps them in their conservation efforts of setting hunting regulations and detecting changes in any waterfowl populations. All of the data that is garnered from each reported duck band is entered into the Bird Banding Laboratory (BBL) database to be used for analyses and studies.

Rotary News

October 2nd found us at the Rotary Clubhouse with three more Wagner Community Seniors present. They introduced themselves and spoke about their studies and their future. Julia Bruguier and Vincent Bruguier are twins, and their parents are Jayette Bruguier and Drew Bruguier. Julia is thinking of attending USD and going into Elementary Education. Her twin brother Vincent is also thinking of a four-year degree at USD and studying psychology. Isabella Hull is thinking of the National Guard and/or a four-year degree in business. She would like to have her own nail shop someday.

10 Years Ago – 2014 The City of Wagner went pink during the Paint the Town Pink event. A large pink ribbon was painted in the middle of Main Street in honor of all those that were currently battling, had battled or had lost their battle with breast cancer.

LEE BRIDGE

Lee Bridge (1941-2024), 83, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024 peacefully in his sleep at his home in Wagner, SD. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the United Methodist Church in Wagner with a luncheon to follow. A small burial for family and friends will be held that afternoon at the Butterfly Bridge Cemetery at the family farm near rural Dante. The Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday, October 9 from 5-7 PM, with a sharing of memories at 6:30 PM. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
