On Tuesday, June 22, Wagner played host to Avon in one 14U Teener contest. It was a tight game most of the way until Wagner plated 10 runs in the bottom of the 6th to win by a count of 16-6.
Read moreOn Tuesday, June 22 Avon’s 18U softball team traveled to Tabor for a doubleheader. In game 1 Avon had a difficult time getting runners on base but was able to hold Tabor to 8 runs over 4 innings. Tabor was able to get runs in each inning before the time for game 1 ran out. Alcista Dion pitched for Avon in the 4-inning game and took the loss, striking out 5. Dion and Kinley Doom each had a hit for Avon.

Read moreThe Girls Class B State Golf Meet was held June 7th and 8th at Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings. Avon Freshman McKenna Kocmich medaled, placing in the top 25 in her first ever state golf tournament appearance. Kocmich shot an 18 hole score of 95 on day one, and an 18 hole score of 90 on day two, for a 36 hole aggregate score of 185, which earned her an 18th place finish. Congratulations McKenna on a great season and a great finish at State!!
Read moreOn Monday, June 14, Wagner played host to Kimball/White Lake in two teener games at Hennies Field. After coming up on the wrong end of a couple of one run games earlier this year the boys finally got one to go their way as they came away with a 4-3 victory.
Read moreOn Wednesday, June 16, Wagner’s 14U teener team traveled to Freeman to play one game and came out on the low end of 3-0 score. Wagner would use three pitchers in this game, each throwing two innings. Joey Cournoyer was first to toe the slab for Wagner. He gave up one earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out two. Frank Soukup then came on and did not give up a run in his time on the mound. He allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out four. Preston McFayden started in the fifth inning. He allowed two unearned runs on two hits while walking on and striking out one.
Read moreWagner’s 14U Teeners participated in Winner’s tournament this past weekend, June 19-20, which took place in both Winner and Colome. Wagner’s first contest of the tournament was a noontime first pitch versus Gregory in the Cowboy country of Colome. Carter Cournoyer would get the nod on the mound for Wagner and that turned out to be a good choice as he turned in a stellar performance leading Wagner to a 9-1 victory. He went the distance (6 innings in this tournament) giving up one earned run on just two hits and a walk while notching 11 Ks. He had Gregory batters baffled for much of the game as only two batters reached in the first five innings. He did give up a double and a single in the sixth but managed to pick off the runner at first base before the Gorillas could mount any serious threat.
Read moreOn Wednesday, June 16 Avon 18U hosted Scotland in a doubleheader in 100 degree heat and came up short against the defending state champions. In game 1, Scotland jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Avon pitcher Reece Loewe started and took the loss; other pitchers included Macy Voigt and Kinley Doom. Hits for Avon included Katie Gretschmann, Loewe and Doom.
