Read moreThe Dictionary Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Their goal is to assist students to become good writers, active readers and creative thinkers by providing students a gift of their own personal dictionary. 2021 is the 25th anniversary of The Dictionary Project. To date, more that 33,000,000 people in all 50 states plus other countries have received dictionaries. At Avon Public School, the Auxiliary of Arthur Wissman Post 150 of the American Legion has again provided dictionaries for the 2021-2022 third grade class. Mrs. Loretta Knodel is their teacher.

Keep in mind some of these events and locations are subject to change with weather or other conflicts. Please be flexible. Read moreThe LIbrary with the help from a grant from the SD Humanities Council will be commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. A viewing of a video produced by the 9/11 Museum in New York city will be viewed along with a set of commemoration posters produced by the same Museum. It is open to the public and will be held on Sat., Sept 11th from 10:00 am-3:00 pm at the Lake Andes Community Center located at 207 Main Street. Because of the nature of the presentation it is suggested that parents/ guardians attend with children under the age of 12. The video showing will be starting at 10 and shown every hour after. It is the concern of the 9/11 Museum that people who were not even born before 9/11 may not have the memories of the event that those of us who lived through the day of the attacks. A presentation is also planned for students at Andes Central on Sept. 10th.
