A special event known as the 606 Unity JAM will be held on Sunday, June 12 at the Wagner Lake in Wagner. The Unity JAM is a multi-cultural celebration for all area cultural groups who would like to participate in the event. The purpose of this jamboree of art and music is inviting everyone to come together so we can see how life is better when we work together to accomplish something of value. The event invites our community to work together to create a family activity for everyone to feel welcome. To build positive relationships locally and between communities and to build partnerships within the community that requires active involvement by everyone involved. To create a sense of community with local businesses, organizations and volunteers and to increase cultural awareness, understanding, acceptance and appreciation for all cultures.

Read moreThe 2022 Ellsworth Air & Space Show will be May 14 & 15. Leading up to the event, South Dakotans in seven locations will have a chance to see a piece of aviation history. The Black Hills Military Advisory Coalition is hosting a tour called “RAID’22,” named as a homage to the two South Dakotans who took part in the famous “Doolittle Raid” of 1942 and Ellsworth Air Force Bases’ military lineage connected to the Doo-little Raiders. The RAID’22 will fly into the airports of Sioux Falls, Brookings, Aberdeen, Chamberlain, Pierre, Rosebud, and Rapid City on May 10 through 13.

The Feather Ceremony is a symbol of hope that the students will soar toward a brighter tomorrow and rewarding future: for themselves, their community, and their tribe. Wambdi- Eagle, is held in high respects by the Dakota/Lakota/Nakota people. It is said that we use him to carry messages to our creator because he flies so high. The eagle is held in high admirations and to earn a feather is a high honor. The tying of the feathers by a family member of a graduate is a key part to the ceremony. The feather ceremony is a tradition passed down through the years. The tradition has withstood time and all the hardships that Native American people have endured.
