Without the participation of everybody & the weather, the weekend wouldn’t have been a success. Planning began over 2 years before, but with COVID, we were shut down, not once, but twice as in 2021 we were shut down again. We decided we needed to roll with it for 2022 and quickly picked a date and executed. Our goals and plans had been downsized, but we couldn’t have done it without some of the outside entities stepping in and completing events. Thanks to the Avon Music Department for hosting the Adult Prom, Avon Post Prom for sponsoring the 5k, Avon Drama Club for sponsoring the Bean Bag Tournament, Avon Cheerleaders for the concession stand during the street dance and Avon Science Club for sponsoring the Pancake & Sausage Feed. As promised, if there was any additional funds left after all our bills were paid, they would be donated back to the community and school. Thanks again and remember, “Once A Pirate, Always A Pirate”.

Read moreIf you haven’t noticed there have been some big changes going on at the Lake Andes Farmers Coop. Land and a building have been cleared to allow for a new 116 foot outdoor scale. The scale has been set in place and the Coop plans to have it operational for small grain harvest in a few weeks. Deb Cooney, general manager stated, “The old scale just wasn’t able to handle the bigger trucks and the tight turn coming off the scale. It has served its purpose and it is time to move on to something more accessible for the farmers. In many cases, trucks had to back out of the scale causing traffic congestion and creating a risk for a traffic accident. We designed the new scale and entrance points with safety in mind and to provide the most efficient flow for grain trucks during harvest. The coop also in stalled new Wayne Fueling Pumps in late May. The pumps are digital and available 24 -7, and run off of a preprogrammed key fob. The pumps provide an easy convenient way for coop members to fuel up anything from a car, to a boat , to a semi. Stop by the office to see if you are eligible for a fuel key and remember we pay a patronage!"
