Wagner Rotary met on Wednesday, June 15th with President Bryan Slaba back in the saddle again. Rotarian/Pastor Laurie Kidd led us once again in prayer asking for protection for all those who have no shelter from our heat wave that is coming. Thanks was given for our food and fellowship. Laurie asked the members to pick out the songs for the day. “Smile” and “Stodola Pumpa” were chosen.

Read morePresident-Elect Becky Brunsing rang the bell with a “soft” ring (compared to President Bryan Slaba) on Wednesday, June 8th in Slaba’s absence. Our two Rotarian Pastors were also absent, so Brunsing asked Rotarian Ken Cotton to offer a prayer which he did quite nicely.

Read moreThe 64th meeting of the Oorlog reunion was called to order by President Mike Oorlog at the Calvary Baptist Church in Yankton, Sunday June 12. The group of 69 people enjoyed a potluck dinner with delicious chicken from JoDeans. The business meeting included a report from the bank (a black purse) that has attended the meeting for over 50 years. President Mike was assisted by Vice President Doug Dykstra and Treasurer Marla Oorlog Boese. During the business meeting the incumbent officers were unanimously elected and Gladys Oorlog List was elected Secretary and Danny Van Gerpen was appointed Interim Historian. The cousins also voted to again convene in Yankton the second Sunday in June, 2023. of George and Henrietta Oorlog who had 18 children, five of whom died in infancy. Five of their 12 child bearing children were represented, coming from Depoe Bay, OR; Harrisburg, PA; Pierre and several other SD towns. The Hillie Oorlog Janssen family, mostly from Yankton, won the largest family prize with 29 attending. Evie Gillogly age 2 was the youngest attendee, daughter of Jenna & Drew Gillogly and granddaughter of President Mike and First Lady Ann Oorlog. Larry & Leatta Pudwill were the senior cousins attending. Anita Oorlog Peterson, daughter of Marla Oorlog and Bob Boese was the most distant cousin attending from Depoe Bay, OR. The group enjoyed a drawing for door prizes followed by the traditional ice cream cones.
