The Wagner Community School’s Varsity golf team swung into their season on Friday, April 11th when they participated in the Class B Classic in Mitchell at Lakeview at 10:30 a.m. This meet was one of their toughest of the season.

Read moreThe Lady pirates struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. However, they were stifled for the rest of the game and lost on a walk off single by Castlewood in the bottom of the fifth. Macy Voigt started the game for the Pirates. The starter gave up five hits and five runs over five innings, striking out five and walking four. Jordyn Voigt led Avon with two hits. Thury had two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Three huge defensive plays were made by Abby Gretschmann, Kaydence Metzger, and Lexi Vanderlei which helped keep the Pirates in the game. A spectacular combination grab of a fly ball between Lexi Vanderlei and Kaeli Wallinga ended the fourth inning.
