The Avon 8U baseball team under the guidance of coaches Nathan Schultz, Dwight Brandt, Kenny Podzimek and Colt Wolf recently played in the state tournament, bringing home a State Championship title. This particular group of 8U boys had been playing together for the past two years. They were a very young team last year, but it gave the boys time to learn how to play together and become a team. Coach Schultz knewthatgoingintothisseason that the team was going to be somethingspecial,andhecould not have been more correct. In addition to winning a state championship title, the team also ended the year with a 11-2 recordintheLMVCLeagueand an overall astonishing season record of 21-2.

Ronald Mount, 95, of Avon died Saturday, July 27, 2024 at his home in Avon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Avon. Burial is in the Trinity Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Avon, with military honors. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m., withasharingofmemoriesat 6:30.
