A PERSON TO KNOW – ELEANOR ANDERSH

Eleanor (Soukup) Andersh has been a lifelong Wagner resident. When she began school, she first attended the Big Tobacco country school which was located three miles from the Soukup family’s rural residence. She attended the Big Tobacco school for first and second grade and then again in eighth grade. When the weather was nice, she would have to walk home from school. For her third-grade year of school, Eleanor was sent to the Tabor Catholic School at the Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church which at the time was also a boarding school with a dormitory. Her parents decided to send Eleanor and later her sister Mary to the catholic boarding school after her older brothers had graduated from the eighth grade from the Big Tobacco country school.

KARL F. FLOOD

Karl F. Flood, 37, of Marty, died Monday, April 22, 2024 in his home in Marty. Funeral services were Thursday, April 25 at the YST Community Center in Marty. Burial was in St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery. Wake services began Tuesday, April 23 at the community center. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

ARLENE GULLIKSON

Arlene Gullikson, 90, of Lake Andes, died Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at her home in Lake Andes. A one night wake service was held Friday, April 26 at the American Legion Hall in Wagner. One night wake was held Sunday, April 28 at the Ralph Wells Community Center in White Shield, ND with funeral services Monday, April 29 at the Ralph Wells Community Center in White Shield, ND. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in White Shield, ND.

Tabor to Platte Rail to Trail In the March-April 2024 'South Dakota Magazine' they are promoting the Rail to Trail project. It reads in part 'Tabor to Platte Rail to Trail would follow a wagon path known as the Military Road that was established in the 1860s. Twenty years later, the Milwaukee Road replaced horses with steel rails. Eventually it became known as the Napa-Platte Line.'

A PARTNERSHIP TO HELP STUDENTS ACCOMPLISH THEIR EDUCATIONAL GOALS

Pictured here are Wagner area students and our first non-traditional student who are all receiving a full ride educational scholarship to help them accomplish their career goals. These recipients are part of a special “Scholarship Signing Program” that was held in the Wagner School with their family and friends on hand to witness this great educational opportunity. These students are receiving the Yankton Sioux Tribe and Build Dakota Partnership Scholarship, which is a full ride scholarship.
