Funeral services for John Asher Packard, 73, of Marty were Wednesday, September 11 at the Marty Community Center. Burial was in the Holy Fellowship Episcopal Cemetery, rural Greenwood. Wake services began Monday, September 9, at the Marty Community Center. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

John Asher Parker Sr. was born on October 18, 1950 to his parents Joe and Emma Packard in Wagner. John died Friday, September 6 at the Lake Andes Healthcare Center.

He attended school in Ravinia, Wagner, and graduated from Vi Oak High School in Morgan Hill, CA.

He joined the Marines 81 Millimeter Motors. He returned to South Dakota in 1975.

John married Anita Bruguier in 1984 and to this union they had a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Packard.

John helped Anita raise her sons, Art and Byron. He joined the Navy. Michelle, Todd, Maria, and Jeremy. He adopted John Asher Jr., and helped raise Monecia, Michael, and Zoey.

He has a lot of grandchildren and great-grandchildren Lewis, AnnMarie, Zoey, and Marleigh.

Packman liked to hunt and fish, work on vehicles. He served on council for the Yankton Sioux Tribe. He was also a security Guard and served several positions at the Fort Randall Casino. He also worked at Marty Indian School as security.

John is survived by his children: Russell, Sarah, and John John.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters; brothers; wife Anita; and two miscarriages.
