Platte-Geddes/Andes Central/Dakota Christian traveled to Sioux Falls to compete in the SDHSAA State Cheer and Dance competition at the Denny Sanford Center on Friday, October 20th.The team took 5th in Dance, 2nd in Jazz, 3rd in Pom and 13th in Grand Champion Cheer and 8th in Small Cheer.Congratulations!!

It may sound simple, but some pitchers can throw fast and sometimes they throw a curveball. Great hitters use their vision and spot the difference, helping them get a hit. Lose focus, and in the blink of an eye the pitch has whipped past them for a strike.

Read moreOn October 14h, Ashley Tolsma sang the National Anthem at the high school State Soccer tournament in Brandon. Ashley had to go through a series of steps to be invited to sing. First, she had to practice the National Anthem. Next, she had to record herself singing it and send the recording to the SDHSAA. The SDHSAA had to pickwhotheywantedtosing,andthey chose Ashley.
Read morePreschool through sixth grade students visited the Avon Fire Hall Thursday, October 12th in honor of Fire Prevention Week. They took a tour of the fire hall and the new rescue truck. Local volunteer fire fighters talked to them about fire prevention and smoke alarms and demonstrated how they cut apart a car using the jaws off life tool. Read moreTyler Joesph Tjeerdsma is a senior at Avon High School, and was born on June 9th, 2006. Tyler is the son of Amber Babutzke and Travis Tjeerdsma, and stepmother Hillary Tjeerdsma. He has 6 siblings, Thayne, Tucker, Hudsyn, and Haliegn Tjeerdsma, as well as Sean and Nick Schryvers. Tyler enjoys playing sports, welding, and making memories with his friends. One of Tyler's proudest moments is placing at state sporting events as an underclassman. Tyler says that high school has prepared him for life outside of AHS because it taught him how to have responsibility and that not everything is going to be handed to him.

They started off the day by going to DWU where they got an opportunity to visit and ask about different colleges at their designated tables.AfterDWUtheyheaded tothefairgroundsanddid kind of the same thing, but there were more interactive activities, like they could play little minigames to win prizes such as T-shirts, hats, sunglasses, etc. They also gathered tickets if they were interactive and asked questions.Theticketsthatthey got, depending on how many they got, determined the prize they could get before they had to leave.
