Andes Central students attended the State FCCLA Conference in Sioux Falls on April 18-20th. Students from across the state participated in workshops, STAR Events, Social Activities, and General Sessions. FCCLA stands for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America. This organization focuses on preparing youth to become community leaders and giving them the skills needed for life after high school.

Read moreApril 8-9 was filled with many learning experiences for five high school girls. Early Thursday morning Cassie Stewart, Makayla Kopp, Madi Mudder, Kim Tolsma, and Gracie Small hopped on a bus headed to Sioux Falls for the state HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) event. Kim Velk, a PA-C from Tyndall, and her nurse Lisa Weier mentored these ladies in this trip!

Read moreNicole Phillips, breast cancer survivor, Hallmark Channel guest, and author, came to Avon High School on February 17 to present an assembly she calls Kindness is Contagious! She told her life story and how she overcame her battles using kindness in her daily life. Phillips also presented a little challenge for teams with salt and pepper. She had salt and pepper (both loosely and in the containers) on a plate with toothpicks and straws, and she said to separate the pepper from the salt. Ironically, all they had to do was split the containers. It was a lesson on perspective. When she finished, she also donated two of her kindness books to Avon High School library.
Read moreAvon students performed a two-act play called The Purrfect Crime on April 17. At 6:00 p.m. the Post Prom committee served supper in the Avon gym prior to the play. Supper consisted of a side salad, pork loin, baked potato, green beans, a bun and dessert...served during intermission.
