American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on June 17, 2021 at the Post Home. Commander Clayton Rados called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados thanked the cooks for the fine meal and then called the meeting to order. There were 27 members in attendance for the meeting with one guest, Nolan Dvorak, Richard Dvoraks’ grandson. Nolan was our choice for Boys State. Nolan gave an excellent presentation on his experiences at Boys State this past summer

South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Greg Whitlock will serve as the keynote speaker. “Whether in peace or at war, the important role of our veterans cannot be denied. They are men and women from all walks of life that have one thing in common – a love for this great country,” said Secretary Whitlock. “No matter where or when veterans have served, they’ve always served with distinction and their service to this country is a bridge that was built on courage, dedication and patriotism.”

There were no guests present other than the program guests, so Pastor Rotarian Bill Herrmann was called upon to offer up a prayer. Bill gave thanks for the day, the food that was prepared for us and asked for the Holy Spirit to guide each of the Rotarians as they go about the Wagner Community.

Read moreLarry Blaha offered his talents to the Wagner Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years starting in 1984. During his fire fighting time, he completed the Chief duties from April of 1989 to April of 1991. Larry continued to help our community as an EMT from 1990 to 2000 and a part-time ambuance driver for five years. Larry will be remembered for the services provided to the City of Wagner, especially at Wagner Lake and the ball fields. He was a member of the Wagner City Council for three and half years and worked as a city employee for 13 years. It was truly an honor to have Larry as part of the Wagner Community. A Memorial for Larry Blaha has been placed in front for the Wagner Fire Hall where several current and retired fire department members joined to honor Larry with his Memorial. Photo by Barb Pechous
