GARY NELSEN

Gary Wayne Nelsen, age 70, of Conifer, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 25, 2023. Gary was born in Pickstown on December 5, 1952, the son of Lavon and Wayne Nelsen of Lake Andes. He graduated from Andes Central High School. After graduation he married Veronica Honomichl of Wagner and entered training to become an x-ray technician. Gary and Ronnie and their two sons, Troy and Travis, moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he began his career with DuPont selling x-ray film. He later moved to Waukesha, WI, where he met and married Laura Gamboeck. In 1997 they moved to Greenville, SC and then to Colorado where he worked his way through several companies to become Vice President of Medical Sales of North America. After college, Gary’s sons relocated to Austin, TX. Gary remained close and was always proud of their accomplishments as they navigated their way through the music world in Austin.

A celebration of life for Elouise J. Fisher, age 9 days, was held Friday, October 6, at the United Church of Christ in Yankton. Burial followed at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Onsite Crematory was entrusted with arrangements.

Funeral Mass for Leo Soukup, 84, of Wagner was held Tuesday, October 10 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wagner. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Wagner. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Rachel Woods was a fill in for President Becky Brunsing at the Rotary meeting on October 4th, 2023. The Vice-President also had other plans. Guests of Rotarian Patty Frei were Margaret Doom the new Wagner Area Growth Director and Jerry Weber brought his neighbor and friend Thoer Goehring from the Delmont area.

Wagner community memorial Hospital - Avera Auxiliary held their monthly meeting on October 4 with ten members present. President Pearl Weber called the meeting to order and members read the Auxiliary prayer.

WCS MIDDLE VOLLEYBALL TEAM

The WCS volleyball team has 28 players on their team this 2023 season. The teams are coached by long-time WCS volleyball coach Tana Langdeaux, who has coached volleyball for over thirty years at WCS and first-year coach, Lauren Bastemeyer. Middle school is divided into three teams A, B and C for their games. This year’s team members are Eva Kjeldgaard, Kendra VanDuysen, Kaylee Zephier, Kaymari Drapeau, Taeya Havranek, Taelyn Knebel, Bella Kotab, Tegan Langdeaux, Jersey McBride, TyShay Medicine Bear, Izzy Myer, LeLonna Picotte, Kaitlyn Zephier, Aulliana Arpan, Mary Ashes, Peyton Drapeau, Raeyon Fool Bull, Eva Freidal, Kymani Gullikson, Sophie Jenson, Camry Link, Emma McNinch, Hallie Roberts, Aspyn Schroeder, Clarah Soukup, Emma Turner, Peytyn Wiechmann and Kenzie Zwanziger.
