Funeral services for Michelle “Goose” Meiers, 57, of Wagner were held Tuesday, November 21 at The Lighthouse in Wagner. Burial was in the ZCBJ Cemetery in Wagner. Peters Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

President Becky Brunsing returned to her presidential duties Wednesday, November 15th with a very sharp ring of the Rotary Bell. There were no guests, and no Seniors present so Pastor/ Rotarian Bill Heermann led the group in prayer. He gave thanks for the beautiful fall weather, our creation and asked for guidance for all Rotarians as we go about our days in our Wagner Community.
Read moreAmerican Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on November 16, 2023 with 32 members in attendance. Commander Clayton Rados thanked the cooks for the delicious turkey and ham meal. Guests in attendance were Amanda Bechen, Dominic Kotab, Darcy Karberna and Carlie Schoenfelder. Carlie and Darcy represented the Wagner Pool Fund raising committee. Their wish was to have a Jingle, Mingle & Bingle event at the Legion Post after the Parade of Lights on December 1st as a fund raiser. More will follow in the newspaper. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados then called the meeting to order Doug Kokesh was present to speak about a picture of a Japanese flag found in a book about WW II. The flag was captured on Iwo Jim. The flag is autographed by various members of the Marine’s 5th Division who fought at Iwo Jima during WW II. One of the signatures is Arthur J. Mach of Wagner.

Hattie Flynn has been a staple with the Announcer since 1973, giving the paper 50 years of service in one way or another. It all began with her sons friendship with the Mr. Birch's son. Mr. Birch, owned the Announcer at the time and asked Hattie if she would like a job working for the Announcer and Hattie accepted the position.
Read moreGreer Unit #11 American Legion Auxiliary held their monthly meeting November 16 at the Post Home with 12 members and one guest present. The meeting was called to order by President Linda Youngbluth. Chaplain Margie Stone read the opening prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance and American Legion Auxiliary Preamble were recited in unison. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved after a correction. The treasurer’s report was given and approved. Motion was made by Margie Stone and seconded by Barbara Kucera to pay the bill that was presented. Motion carried. Membership chairman, Barbara Kucera reported that we have 64 paid members. The membership goal is 85. Correspondence was read from the District President, Karen Richelieu. Thank yous were read from the State VA and R. chairman for the donation for items sent for the Veteran’s gift shop. Community service chairman, Margie Stone, reported appropriate cards had been sent. Motion was made by Marlene Stone and seconded by Barbara Kucera to purchase stamps. Motion carried.

At 94 years young, Clarence “Buzz” Durham can still be found outside everyday working with and taking care of his animals. Buzz still has a few cows and takes care of six horses. His love of horses dates back to his toddler years when he was put on a horse for the first time. A love like no other formed in those early years and it can still be seen today in the way he tends to and handles the horses in his life.
