LAHOMA JOHNSON
Funeral services for Lahoma Johnson, 85, of Wagner were held Saturday, November 16 at the National Guard Armory in Wagner. Burial was in the Leau Qui Court Cemetery in Niobrara, NE. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.
Lahoma Violet Hamilton was born in the Old Cheyenne Agency on October 30 or October 31, 1939 to Pauline (Miner) and Harry Hamilton. She died Tuesday, November 12 at the Good Samaritan Society in Scotland.
Lahoma was raised by her Grandma and Grandpa Sand along the Moreau River on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. She loved animals and enjoyed being outdoors.
Lahoma attended elementary school on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation and later attended St. Mary’s Episcopal School for Indian Girls in Springfield. After graduation, she moved to Sioux Falls where she attended nursing school.
Lahoma married Clifford Johnson on April 28,1962. They made their home in Sisseton and South Sioux City, Nebraska but would become a long time resident of Wagner.
Lahoma worked many years as a teachers aide, dorm matron, EMT, and many years at the Fort Randall Casino where she was considered one of the originals. She enjoyed being around people and being busy.
Lahoma’s greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a kind and gentle person. She was always willing to give a hug when needed.
Lahoma is survived by her four children: Clifford (Susan) Johnson of Lake Andes, Janet Johnson of Wagner, Robert Johnson of Wagner, and Paula (Bart) Becker of O’Neill, NE; grandchildren: Brieanne Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, Allison (Matthew) Haun of Spencer, NE, and Cliff Johnson of South Sioux CIty, NE; one sister Joyce (Calvin) Edwards of Eagle Butte; two cats (Katniss and Max); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Clifford Johnson, grandparents, mother Pauline White Eyes, sisters: Louella White Eyes, Alverda Iron Bird and Jolene White Eyes; and brother Ansel White Eyes.
