RONALD MOUNT
Funeral services for Ronald Mount, 95, of Avon were held Thursday, August 1 at the First Presbyterian Church in Avon. Burial was in the Trinity Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Avon, with military honors. Peters Funeral Chapel in Avon was in charge of arrangements. Ronald James Mount was born on a farm near Canby, MN on August 27, 1928, the son of Ray and Elsie (Crandall) Mount. He died Saturday, July 27, 2024 at his home in Avon. Ron attended country school for four years near Canby, MN. They moved to Gary, where he attended school through the 8th grade. He helped his dad on the farm until his parents moved to Avon. Ron stayed on the farm by Gary until moving to Avon in 1950 to help his brother and dad on Wicken’s Ranch. Ron was drafted into the US Army in August of 1951 and served during the Korean War until August of 1953. In 1990, Ron retired from the SD State Highway Department after working there for nearly 37 years. On November 18, 1966, Ron married Ruth Anne (Hill) Metteer. He welcomed her four children and there were two children born to their union. Ron was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion for 70 years, and the Avon Fire Department for ten years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, and being with family. He loved the Minnesota Twins and watching old westerns and Molly B Polka. He was always helping neighbors and others as he never liked to sit still. Ron is survived by children: Jeff (Peg) Metteer of Yankton, Donna (Ken) Wattier of Dell Rapids, Debbie Metteer of Avon, Lori (Roy) Giedd of Lake Andes, Susan (Robert) Dykstra of Brandon, and Randy (Stacy) Mount of Webster; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Ron was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Anne; parents; brother Robert Mount; sisters Joyce Merkwan and Ethel Reiff; and several inlaws.
