Funeral services for John Greger, 75, of Wagner, were Friday, June 24, at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner. Burial was in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements. Memorials will be directed to the Wagner Cancer Group and the Pink Ladies.

John Henry Greger was born in Sioux City, IA the son of Lester and Blanche (McElroy) Greger. He died Monday, June 20, 2022 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner.

John attended school in Wagner through the eighth grade. He was united in marriage to Lynette Goldhammer in Delmont at Zion Lutheran Church. John was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church.

John worked for Jack Hennies at Jack’s Champion for awhile. He then drove truck for Herschel Ells. John then bought a truck with his brother Sam and started Greger Brothers Trucking. He later bought hogs for Heinold for about 10 years. In the mid 1980’s he purchased a radiator shop and named it John’s Radiator. He added on to the building and it became John’s Tire. John retired in 2010 and turned the business over to his son Dave. Retirement wasn’t for John and they started Greger Pawn Shop, where he became known last the “Pawn King”.

John was very social and loved visiting with people. He loved going to auctions, gardening, riding his RZR in the Black Hills or wherever, fishing, and going on motorcycle trips.

John was a member of the Dante Lake Club, Wagner Lake Restoration Committee and served his community as a former member of the Wagner City Council and Zoning Board.

Thankful for having shared his life are his wife Lynette of Wagner, son Dave (Stacy) Greger of Wagner; daughter Kim (Alan) Giedd of Wagner; four grandchildren: Taylor Mohr and fiancé Kassie Loe, Jennifer (Quinn) Wilson, Austin and Aubrey Giedd; brother, Terry (Sally) Greger of Mesa, AZ; half-sister, Dorothy Florey of Sparks, NV; sister-in-law, Marlys (David) Hill of Sioux Falls; brother-in-law, Dennis Goldhammer of Billings, MT; and many other relatives.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ron, Jack “Honeyboy”, Don and Sam; sister, Shirley Harrington; nephew, Richard Greger; mother and father-in-law, Frieda and Reinhart Goldhammer.
