CURTIS KABERNA

A Celebration of Life for Curtis Ray Kaberna, 81, of Wagner, was held Friday, July 26, at the United Methodist Church in Wagner. Inurnment was in the ZCBJ Cemetery, with military honors.

Curtis Ray Kaberna known affectionately as Curt, passed away July 19, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Center in Corsica at the age of 81.

He was born March 25, 1943, to Wesley and DeElda (Newman) Kaberna in Wagner. Curt was a lifelong resident and an integral part of the community. Curt’s early education was in country school though the eighth grade, followed by his graduation from Wagner High School in 1961. Post-graduation, he honorably served in the US Army from 1963 to 1965. After his military service Curt returned to Wagner where he dedicated his life to farming on the family farm. Known for his quiet, thoughtful nature and subtle yet engaging sense of humor, Curt was devoted to his agricultural career, which he excelled in until his passing. He lived his entire life on the family farm, embodying the spirit of dedication and hard work.

An avid hunter, Curt cherished the time spent hunting with family and friends, a pastime that brought him much joy and forged lasting memories.

Curt’s niece Nikki and her family moved to the area 12 years ago and he became more than just an uncle. Curt loved spending his time with Nikki, Chris, Creighton, and Tinlye. He couldn’t wait for 4th of July fireworks with the kids and hearing about Creighton and Tinlye’s stories about all the activities they were in. Curt cherished the time he spent with his family and loved getting to watch Creighton and Tinlye grow up.

Curt is survived by his niece, Nikki (Kaberna) Kuemper, and his nephew, Shad Kaberna along with their families. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Jan Kaberna and several cousins and their families.

Curt was predeceased by his parents and his brother Gary.
