TheWagner7/8boys’basketball team hosted the Mount Vernon/ Plankinton Titans for a pair of game at the Armory on Thursday, February 16. The Raiders came out aggressive on the offensive end and took control of the game early as they built an 12-5 lead after the first. They kept the defensive pressure up and worked the ball into the post for some baskets, which pushed their halftime lead to 27-8. The scoring slowed down a little in the second half, but the defense did their job as the Raiders pulled out a 40-17 victory. The win raises the Raiders record to 9-4 on the season. Leading scorers for the Raiders were Cruise Koupal with 15, Payne Petry with 8, Brock Cournoyer with 6, Steven Peters with 4, Brannon Bruguier, Kayo Fischer, and Kingston Brunelle all with 2 and Paxton Kuhlman with one point.

In the 7th grade game, the Cavaliers came out hot on offense and kept the Raiders on their heels as the Raiders were down 13-5 after the first. It was more evenly matched in the 2nd, but Bon Homme was able to push their lead to 24-14 at the half. The Raiders played better defensively in the 2nd half as they cut their deficit down to 8 at the end of 3. The offense finally came to life as Brock Cournoyer and Steven Peters hit 3’s to bring the Raiders all the way back to tie it up late in the 4th quarter. Bon Homme managed to make a layup to regain the lead. The Raiders came back and got a good look under the basket that rimmed out, but we were fouled on the shot. We made 1 of 2 free throws to pull within 1 but were never able to get possession of the ball back before time expired. The final score saw the Raiders go down 32-31. The loss drops their season record to 8-4. Leading scorers were Cruise Koupal with 10, Payne Petry and Steven Peters with 7 each, Brock Cournoyer with 5, and Kayo Fischer with 2.

Wagner would storm out of the gate to take a commanding 25-5 lead after the first and then 47-9 lead into half. Wagner would win the game and also claim the SESD title with a 81-13 victory. Shalayne Nagel would lead all scorers with 21 points, 6 boards, 6 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocks. Ashlyn Koupal would net 19 points, 5 boards, 2 steals, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. Emma Yost would record another double-double with 14 points, 12 boards, 3 steals, and 3 assists. Lydia Yost would be the 4th Raider in double-figures with 12 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Eve Zephier would finish with 6 points, a team high 8 assists, 5 steals, and 2 boards. Macy Koupal would also finish with 6 points, 5 boards, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Braxton Nedved would round out the scoring with 3 points. Wagner would shoot 3255 from the field for 55% while the Panthers would go 5-33 for 15%. Wagner would control the glass with a 33-14 advantage. Wagner would commit 8 turnovers compared to 29 from Platte-Geddes. “Offensively we really got things clicking and executed in the half court. Defensively we did a great job of taking away their tendencies and forcing them into uncomfortable situations. Congratulations to the girls for being SESD Champions! Now onto Region play where we have the opportunity to host 2 more home games.”
