My son is a cub scout, and I am den leader. Recently our den met outside and practiced putting up tents and learned how to build a fire. With efforts to stay distanced, every scout made his own s’more, and we had such a fun time.

The October 21st meeting of the Wagner Rotary Club was brought to order by President Bryan Slaba with the traditional ringing of the club bell. President Bryan led the members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to our United States Flag. Rotarian Bill Heermann blessed the members in attendance with a prayer for our fellowship and food, a delicious steak meal.

Hunting partner Doug Koupal and I had 17 preference points for Black Hills elk going into this season. When SDGF&P told me we probably wouldn’t live long enough to draw “any elk” tags even with these points, we opted for “cow elk” tags in Unit H2B23 which included our campsite above Deerfield at an elevation of 6800 feet. I had written a letter to a land owner explaining our situation, and we were offered not only hunting permission, but also a cabin on the site. Opening day would be Thursday, October 15th. Today I would label myself as a fair deer hunter, but I find it interesting that I was 26 years-old before I first gave deer hunting a try. I laugh at myself when I think about that first 1968 Black Hills adventure.

The Wagner Rotary Club was called to order on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 by President Bryan Slaba. He called upon Pastor Laurie Kidd to give a prayer. Laurie asked the membership to pray for our Rotarian Jerry Weber and for the Merle Denker family. Thanks was given for the beautiful day, the nourishing food, and for continued guidance in serving our Wagner Community. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the Rotary members in place of singing.
