National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6th through the 12th. Andes Central School District is lucky to have a wonderful school nurse that serves dual positions as an elementary administrative professional and school nurse. Terri Bambas does a fantastic job in performing both positions at the school.

Police officers deserve to be honored and recognized for their dedication and hard work for their communities. Police Chief, Theodore Smith, is the lone officer of theAvonPoliceDepartment. Police Chief Smith has been in his current position for almost seven months in Avon. What Chief Smith enjoys most about being a part of law enforcement is the opportunity that the job allows him to make a difference in the community. Smith’s grandfather was the Chief of Police in Sturgis while Smith was growing up. Listening to his grandfather’s experiences as a police officer and chief stirred an interest in Smith. Smith also has his own personal training and experienceinlawenforcement from his training while in the National Guard. These are the top two reasons that Smith chose a career in law enforcement.

Read moreThe Bon Homme County Child Protection (CP) Team has been meeting throughout the school year to identify needs of families in the county and to find creative ways to provide for those needs. The CP team includes volunteer representatives from each schooldistrict(administrators, school counselors, and school psychologist), Rising Hope and Lewis and Clark Behavioral Health therapists, county legal/law enforcement, and area social service agencies. Wecollaborateonwaystoraise funds as needs arise in Bon Homme County, including the communities of Avon, Scotland, Springfield, Tabor, and Tyndall. As we meet, we are able to coordinate referrals for mental health counseling and family support. Our referrals come from school officials, law enforcement, teachers, and from family members who reach out for assistance.
