Read moreThe Ihanktonwan Learning Camp will be returning to our community soon, on June 17th, earlier than it has in the past. A group of volunteers have come to us from Maryland since 2010 to offer fun and educational activities for children for a week. The camp is offered with the help and support of historic Cedar and Greenwood Presbyterian churches. Robin Bissell, who has led the camp since its beginning says “Special thanks go to Pete Kazena, Mary Antelope, Geraldine Provost, Reverend Jerry Zephier and many others. We are also holding special places of gratitude in our hearts for those who have helped us so much in the past. These include Natalie Medicine Bear, Karen White Horse and Robert Cournoyer.”

He entered the service October 1st of 1969 and one year, 11 months, and 27 days later in September of 1971 his tour of duty ended.

This service award is given in memory of Richard Leasure. The honoree’s contributions can be made through giving their time, actions, talents and or dedication. The honoree(s) selected should serve as a role model for compassion, service, strive to make the Yankton Sioux Reservation a better place and have a passion for helping others in the community. Honorees can be a tribal or non-tribal member. Sponsors of this annual event are the Richard Leasure family, Ft. Randall Casino and the Yankton Sioux Tribe.
