Monday, June 7th was the kick off to the Avon Public Library’s Summer Reading Program. Forty-five children showed up for the event. Faith Vanden Hoek was the guest reader, reading Pout Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen. The participants enjoyed a snack of an underwater scene they got to design on a graham cracker with frosting, goldfish, and candy fish sprinkles. Next, the kids started working on their Young Author’s workshop projects. These are cumulative projects that can be worked on in the library all summer. When finished, the pages will be sent to be published. Each child will receive their own hardcover creation. Five names were drawn for door prizes. Thank you to the following businesses and individuals who have donated prizes to our program: Beck Seeds (Scott and Julie Van Gerpen, Powers Furniture, Ron’s Market, Beth Namminga, and Kristi Hilzendegar.) Our next Summer Reading Program session will be June 21st at 12:30pm.

Alongside these professionals are the Gold Star families who have also paid the price for the higher calling of their loved ones.
